The benchmark indices ended slightly higher, led by IT tocks.
At close, the Sensex was up 226.47 points or 0.41 per cent at 55,555.79 and the Nifty was up 45.95 points or 0.28 per cent at 16,496.45.
About 745 shares have advanced, 2438 shares declined and 135 shares remain unchanged.
On the Nifty 50 index, HCL Tech (4.09 per cent), Nestle (2.30 per cent), TCS (2.19 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (1.96 per cent) and Bharti Airtel (1.46 per cent) were the top gainers for the day, while Grasim (-2.96 per cent), Adani Ports (-2.75 per cent), M&M (-2.51 per cent), Bajaj Auto (-2.22 per cent) and Eicher Motors (-2.22 per cent) were the top losers for the day.
On the sectoral front, the Nifty IT index gained 1.7 per cent, while Metal, Auto and PSU Bank indices ended in red.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices were 0.90 per cent and 1.55 per cent each.
Author’s View: It will be crucial for Nifty to sustain above 16,500 level. If the Nifty is able to sustain above 16,500 level, we can witness higher level of 16,700.
