About 90 percent of the total average rainfall in June fell in the suburbs in just the last six days. Monsoon rains arrive in Mumbai by the second week of June. Before that, the pre-monsoon rain starts from the end of May. This year, however, the monsoon rains arrived late.


In the first week after the arrival of monsoon rains in Mumbai and surrounding areas, almost 94 percent of the average rainfall in the month of June (1st to 30th June) fell in the suburbs. In the month of June (1st to 30th June), Mumbai suburbs received an average of 536.1 mm of rainfall. This year, Santacruz centre has recorded 502.9 millimetres of rain till the evening of June 29.

Accordingly, almost 94 percent of the average rainfall in June has been received so far. 90 percent of it i.e. 485 mm of rain fell in just six days from June 24 to 29. The deficit is comparatively more in Mumbai city. However, the rains in the last six days have reduced the deficit there as well. Colaba Center recorded an average rainfall of 542.3 mm in June.
