The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is working on constructing foot-over bridges (FOBs) and underpasses for upcoming lines to provide better amenities for commuters from the first day of its operations.

The decision was made after the footfall on Metro 7 and Metro 2A lines were seen below average due to poor connectivity. Therefore, authorities have decided to improve connectivity and facilities for the upcoming metro lines.

Learning from past experiences, they have appointed consultants to identify areas where the Metro 4, 4A, and Metro 9 corridors can be linked with other locations through civil infrastructure. They will suggest where to construct underpasses and FOBs, project management, and prepare DPR (detailed project reports).

One of the major projects is the foot-over-bridge (FOB) at Metro 7's Goregaon Station. The contractor has already been selected, and the project will connect the station with the Ram Mandir station of the Western Railways (WR). The bridge is 625 meters long and four meters wide, with a budget of INR 57.93 crores.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is also working on finding connections between Metro 4, 4A, and 9 corridors with more locations to enhance frameworks and structures.

The Metro 4 corridor will stretch 32.3 kilometres between Wadala and Kasarvadwali, and there will be an additional 2.7 km of track from Gaumukh to Kasarvadavali. Meanwhile, the Metro 9 corridor will run between Mira-Bhayandar and Dahisar (East).

The construction of FOBs and underpasses will enable commuters to have a better and more convenient travel experience.

With better connectivity and facilities, it is expected that the footfall on the Mumbai Metro will increase, making it a more viable transportation option for Mumbaikars.
