Cyclone 'Gulab' has transformed into a low-pressure area and its impact is being felt in various parts of Maharashtra. This resulted in thunderstorms and heavy rains hit Mumbai, Thane and neighbouring areas along with some districts of Marathwada and Vidarbha on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The rains on Sunday and Monday swept away more than 200 animals and damaged many homes. After that, the India meteorological department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Maharashtra on Wednesday. Therefore, there is a possibility of torrential rain in different places with lightning, strong winds and thunderstorms.

Due to heavy rains, 17 people have died so far across Maharashtra. However, the NDRF team evacuated more than 560 people.

Mumbai also received heavy rains on Tuesday night, September 28. The weather department has forecast 'heavy rains' in the next 24 hours in Marathwada, Mumbai and the coastal Konkan region of the state. Rains have caused a lot of damage in Marathwada. The other worst affected districts are Aurangabad, Latur, Osmanabad, Parbhani, Nanded, Beed, Jalna and Hingoli.

The meteorological department has maintained a yellow alert for Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Solapur districts of Maharashtra in the wake of Rose Storm.
