In a major crackdown against illegal parking at bus stops across the city, the Mumbai traffic police has issued e-challans to over 9,000 motorists within 12 days.

The special drive, conducted from April 24 to May 5. E-challans were issued to 9,658 motorists and fine of ₹10.21 lakh was collected during this period.

This was initiated following several complaints from residents who encountered difficulties while alighting or boarding BEST buses.

Students, senior citizens, and differently-abled passengers were particularly affected, according to the traffic police.

These illegal parking at bus stops led to traffic jams as buses were forced to halt on the road instead of their designated stops.

Officials stated that the vehicle owners were fined under Section 181 of the Motor Vehicles Act,1988. Moreover, this drive will continue across the city, they added.
