Mumbai: Dawood finally arrested after 40 years

Mumbai Police has succeeded in arresting accused Papa alias Dawood Bandu Khan (70) from Agra who has been absconding for the past 40 years. The accused was changing his identity to avoid arrest. D. B. Marg police conducted a special operation and arrested him. Papa alias Dawood Bandu Khan, the accused in the rape case, was arrested in 1984.


Dawood began to be absent from the ongoing hearing in the Sessions Court in this matter. Finally the session court declared him absconding. A non-bailable warrant was issued against him. Dawood was absconding for the last 40 years and the case was pending in the court.

In the wake of the election code of conduct, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Circle-2 ordered a special drive to trace the fugitive accused on the records of the police station and arrest them. Accordingly, the fugitive accused in the said crime was searched at Falkland Road in Mumbai. But he was not found. When the police team inquired in the area, it was learned that Dawood had sold his house at Falkland Road and left for North India with his family. But the team could not figure out where exactly the accused had gone.

Police constable Rane started questioning Dawood's contacts. From the news they got to know the whereabouts of Dawood. The information received was verified. As soon as we got information that the accused was in the Agra area, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vinay Ghorpade, Police Sub-Inspector Santosh Koinde and a team left for Agra. Surveillance was conducted at the residence of the accused in Agra area. After verifying the information using technical methods, a trap was laid in the area where Dawood lived and he was arrested. Dawood has been brought to Mumbai on transit remand.
