Six workers have died after a conveyor fell from the 40th floor of the under-construction Runwal Eirene building in Thane's Balkum area. One worker got seriously injured and his condition is critical. He is undergoing treatment in a private hospital. This incident took place on Sunday evening and the incident is causing outrage in the city. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known.


Mahendra Chaupal (32), Rupesh Kumar Das (21), Haroon Sheikh (47), Mithlesh (35), Karidas (38) are the names of five dead workers, while the name of one worker is not known. Sunil Kumar Das (21), a labourer, is seriously injured. The construction of Runwal Eirene building is in progress next to Narayani School in Balkum. This building has 40 floors. Waterproofing work on the roof of this building started on Sunday. After finishing this work, the workers were coming down by conveyor at 5:30 pm. At that time, the rope of the pilot broke and the accident occurred.

The incident came to light after one and a half to two hours when other workers were passing by. As soon as the information about the incident came to light, the police, fire brigade personnel and local former corporator Sanjay Bhoir rushed to the spot and started relief work. Workers trapped in the conveyor were evacuated. Six workers died on the spot in this accident. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Police are investigating the accident.
