In a latest development on the Gokhale bridge’s final alignment with Barfiwala flyover in Andheri, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) has submitted its final report three weeks after the Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI)’s first technical report to the civic body on March 19.

VJTI and IIT both in its report stated that the two flyovers can be merged without demolishing either of them.

As per reports, VJTI said the two structures can be aligned by raising four spans, however, the IIT mentioned that it can be merged by raising two spans instead of four.

Officials said that the VJTI will prepare the blueprints immediately, after which the alignment work will be taken up. Alignment works will be completed within 60-90 days and they are aiming to achieve it by June end or first week of July. The total cost of alignment would be around INR 8 crores.

The girders on the northern side of the bridge were being brought to Mumbai from an Ambala workshop and the assembling process will begin after April 2024.
