For the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, there will be polling stations manned by physically challenged personnel in each constituency. A total of 254 polling stations across the state will be controlled by physically challenged personnel. The Central Election Commission has emphasised that there should be polling stations for the physically challenged in every constituency and physically challenged controlled polling stations will be established.
Maximum 30 polling stations in Ratnagiri district will be controlled by physically challenged personnel. There will be 22 polling stations in Jalgaon, 21 in Pune, 18 in Thane and 15 in Nashik. In 6 districts Akola, Kolhapur, Latur, Palghar, Parbhani, Raigarh, 1 polling station each will be manned by physically challenged personnel. There will be no polling stations manned by physically challenged personnel in Gadchiroli, Sindhudurg and Washim districts.
This year, a total of 6,04,145 physically challenged voters are marked in the voter list. Voters whose disability rate is more than 40 percent will have the facility to vote at home through postal ballot.
'Saksham' app for disabled voters
The Election Commission of India has made 'Saksham' app available this year to increase the participation of voters with disabilities. Through that medium and in a special short review period, a maximum number of physically challenged voters have been registered by organising special camps for the disabled. Till now, names of 6,04,145 voters have been identified as physic ally challenged voters as per their demand.
