On Thursday, March 3, opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly on the first day of the Maharashtra budget session. Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly while interacting with the reporters stated that for the first time in the state, a minister has been put behind bars, but his resignation hasn’t been taken.

Fadnavis believes this is unexpected and added that the minister Nawab Malik hasn’t been put behind bars for a small matter, but is accused of dealing with underworld gangster, Dawood Ibrahim’s family.

The BJP leader went on to question why the government wasn’t taking Malik’s resignation and reportedly said, “This is a 'Dawood samarpit', 'Dawood sharan' govt”. He is of the opinion that the government is coming together to save those who have relations with Dawood.

This according to him is the reason why they have commenced protests and have demanded the immediate resignation of Malik.

According to accounts, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari left his speech midway and left from the Assembly on the first day of the session, as MVA MLAs shout slogans in the House over his allegedly controversial statement over Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj recently.

Following this, reports claim that all BJP MLAs will be meeting today to discuss party strategy for the ongoing Assembly Session.

In the aftermath of this, the Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly and State Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad) was adjourned till Friday, March 4 tomorrow at 11 am.
