A special court in Mumbai, which is hearing the Malegaon blast case, has granted leave to BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur to appear in person to record her statement on medical grounds. However, the court has also said that if she does not appear in court on April 25, the necessary order will be passed. On September 29, 2008, a bomb exploded outside a mosque in Malegaon, six people died and more than 100 people were seriously injured.

What is the matter?

On Saturday (April 20), when the case was being heard in the special court, Pragya Thakur filed a petition to remain absent through her lawyer. The petition said that the demand for absence should be accepted as the treatment is going on in Bhopal. Earlier on April 8, the court had ordered her to appear before the court on April 20. According to the report given to the court by the National Investigation Agency after consultation with Pragya Thakur's doctor, the court ordered her to appear on April 20. But now after the latest plea of the lawyers, April 25 has been given as the last deadline.

The National Investigation Agency said that according to the medical certificate filed on behalf of Pragya Thakur, there was no mention of her not being able to travel from Bhopal to Mumbai. Special court judge AK Lahoti in his order said, “We have come to the conclusion that Pragya Thakur should be given a last chance as per the medical certificate submitted by her counsel ordering accused no.1 (Pragya Thakur) to appear in court before 25th April. If she doesn't attend, we will take necessary action."

Last month, the court issued a bailable warrant against Pragya Thakur. But the warrant was suspended after Thakur's lawyer informed about her condition. Thakur was heading towards Mumbai from Bhopal. But she was admitted to the hospital as her condition deteriorated on the way, the lawyers informed the court.
