Central Railway (CR) has undertaken the work to convert the existing Platform No. 10 into double discharge platform for down fast local trains. Therefore, there will be a significant transformation in the crowd at Dadar station during the evening rush hour.

The initiative aims to reduce congestion at Dadar station, one of Mumbai's busiest railway stations. Around 150 down fast local and numerous long distance trains ply towards Kalyan daily.

This will also help in optimising the commuter flow and safety. When trains arrive simultaneously at Platforms 9 and 10. This leads to a potential stampede-like situation. With this, the passengers can board and alight from both sides of the train addressing the challenges posed by heavy footfall especially during peak hours.

It is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2024, railway authorities stated.

"The conversion of platform 10/11 into a home platform (boarding and alighting from both sides) is an important step towards enhancing the convenience and safety of passengers. Opening platform no. 10 for public use, will streamline the boarding and alighting of passengers from both sides and reduce congestion" a said the officer.
