In a significant development, it has come to light that passenger services at Kotak Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) Metro Station has been suspended after a fire broke out on Friday afternoon, November 15, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) informed.
According to the administration, "The fire broke out in the basement of the metro station, about 40-50 feet deep. after the incident was reported, fire brigade was alerted and was rushed to the spot and started dousing the fire." Also, as a precautionary measure, the passengers were immediately evacuated for the safety of the passengers. Therefore, no injury or casualties were reported in this incident.
According to the civic officials, the fire started due to a pile of garbage near the income tax office opposite the BKC metro station. It spread to wooden storage and furniture in the area.
Officials said the BKC Metro station was temporarily closed for operations as a precautionary measure, but the rest of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 was fully operational. However, following successful containment measures, the train services were fully restored at 14.45 hrs.
"Passenger services at BKC station were temporarily suspended due to fire outside Entry/Exit A4 causing smoke spread throughout the station. We have suspended the service for the safety of passengers and passengers are kindly requested to use Bandra Colony station for alternative boarding," MMRC directed.
Earlier, a 23-year-old man was killed and another seriously injured in a fire in Mumbai's Goregaon area on Sunday, November 10, officials said. Officials said the vehicle in front of the garage caught fire while it was refilling gas.
According to preliminary information, the fire started due to a leak while refilling the vehicle with refrigerant gas from the compressor, which burnt the electric wiring and other parts of the vehicle.
A fire brigade official said that a parked bike was also damaged.
