The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for hot and humid conditions in isolated pockets of Mumbai and its neighbouring districts between April 5 and 7.
The temperatures are likely to surpass 37 degrees Celsius over the course of the weekend.
This development comes at a time when the city is witnessing soaring temperatures.
The IMD has issued yellow alerts for Mumbai as well as Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri between Saturday and Monday.
Over the past two days, the IMD had forecast the likelihood of light drizzles alongside thunderstorms in Mumbai and its neighbouring districts. Even as pockets of Mumbai and Thane experienced patchy showers on Tuesday night with the IMD’s Santacruz station recording trace (negligible) rainfall, there was no rain on Wednesday.
While the mercury hovered around 33 degrees Celsius on Monday, the maximum temperature shot to 37.7 degrees on Tuesday, followed by highs of up to 36.9 degrees on Wednesday.
On Thursday, April 3, the Mumbai’s RMC recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius and 33.9 degrees Celsius at Santacru and Colaba observatory respectively.
