JNPA Signs MoU with NMDC for Investment of INR 21,000 Cr for the Vadhvan Port Project

Jawaharlal Nehru Port, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of the Vadhvan Port Project Ltd., establishing an important collaboration with NMDC Group PJSC (Formerly National Marine Dredging Company PJSC) on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. JNPA's commitment to enhancing India's port infrastructure and transforming Vadhvan Port into one of the top 10 ports globally, port of the future is demonstrated by this association.

The MOU was exchanged by Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, JNPA and CMD, VPPL, and Yasser Zaghloul. According to the Memorandum of Understanding, NMDC Group PJSC has proposed to invest an estimated ₹21,000 crore for the development of the Land Offshore of Vadhvan Coast by Dredging, Reclamation and Shore Protection of Vadhvan Port.

While highlighting the significance of the MoU, Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, JNPA and CMD, VPPL, said, “The MoU between JNPA and NMDC Group PJSC is a significant step towards developing Vadhvan Port as a world-class maritime hub. This collaboration brings global expertise to one of India’s most ambitious port projects, ensuring its strategic and sustainable development. With progress ahead of schedule, we are committed to accelerating infrastructure development and enhancing India’s port capabilities to meet future trade demands.”

Earlier, several MoUs were signed for VPPL in the presence of the Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Shantanu Thakur, Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, during their visit to JN Port.

Currently, JNPA operates five container terminals - NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT. The Port also has a Shallow Water Berth for general cargo. A Liquid Cargo Terminal present at the JNPA Port is managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium. Additionally, the newly constructed coastal berth links other Indian ports and facilitates enhancing the traffic of coastal containers. 

Nestled across 277 hectares of land, JNPA also operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, to boost export-oriented industries in India. 

JNPA is also developing an all-weather, deep-draft, greenfield port at Vadhvan, in Maharashtra.
