Pravin Darade will be transferred to BMC on February 27, 2019. He will now be the Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) and will head some of the city’s most important infrastructure projects, including the coastal road project. He will be succeeded by Sonia Sethi, a 1994 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

Darade popularly known as the 'Metro Man' has successfully prepared a detailed project report for metro corridors that will be running in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and got it approved from the state cabinet in a short span of time.

Metro Line 2A, DN Nagar-Mandale (Metro 2B), Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali (Metro 4), Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan (Metro 5), and Dahisar East-Andheri East (Metro 7), Swami Samarth Nagar-Jogeshwari-Vikhroli (Metro 6) are the few metro lines of which work has already commenced, while some are in the tendering process.

Notably, Darade always wanted to complete the metro project at the earliest as there are staggering statistics that 10-12 people die every day due to falling out from crowded trains in the suburban railway network. He always believed that completing the metro line even a day before the set deadline would mean saving those lives.

According to reports, BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta could be transferred as well as the additional chief secretary in the home department.
