Monsoon leads to rise in prices of fruits and vegetables

Harsh heat and pre-monsoon rains have caused huge damage to fruits and vegetables. Cultivation of fruits and vegetables has been affected and the import is decreasing. The prices of all types of vegetables have increased by 10 to 20 percent. Prices of leafy vegetables along with fruits and vegetables have been affected. 

The arrival of fruits and vegetables in the wholesale market has been low since last week. 80 to 90 truckloads of fruit and vegetables arrived in the wholesale market in the market yard on Sunday from the state as well as from outside the state. The arrival of fruits and vegetables in the market is less than usual for the last two weeks.

Intermittent rains affected fruit and vegetable cultivation. There was a huge loss of fruits and vegetables. New planting will take at least one to one and a half months. Therefore, the prices of fruits and vegetables will continue to rise, he mentioned.

Price per kg of fruits and vegetables

  • Onion – 40 to 45 rupees
  • Potato – 40 to 45 rupees
  • Tomato- 70 to 80 rupees
  • Okra – 120 to 140 rupees
  • Gowar – 150 to 160
  • Eggplant – 80 to 100
  • Flower – 100 to 120
  • Cabbage – 70 to 80
  • Fenugreek – 40 to 50
  • Coriander – 50 to 60

Increase in the price of leafy vegetables

Leafy vegetables have been affected by the rain. The arrival of leafy vegetables has decreased for the last fifteen days. The arrival of good quality leafy vegetables in the market is low. In the retail market, the price of one bunch of coriander is between INR 50 to INR 60 rupees.
