As per the data released by the state health ministry, the number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra has been increasing steadily. A similar pattern is observed in Mumbai, where data shows that the number of cases has crossed the 40,000-mark. Keeping this in mind, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), on June 1, 2020, updated the list of containment zones in Mumbai.

The Ministry of Home Affairs extended the lockdown until June 30, across the containment zones in India. However, despite Lockdown 5.0, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray announced 'Mission Begin Again' where some restrictions will be eased from June 5, 2020, in Mumbai and nearby regions. But, these containment zones and red zones in Mumbai will remain sealed.

As of May 29, 2020, Mumbai had a total of 706 containment zones or red zones, and the number has increased to 763 zones as of June 4, 2020. Below table shows the ward wise data with the number of areas sealed by the BMC.
