The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have been criticised on several occasions due to their selection process and have come under the scrutiny for the same. The selection process has left several cricket fans and cricketers baffled due to some of the decisions taken by BCCI.
Recently, former Indian captain and cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar accused the national team selectors of showing bias towards players from Mumbai while selecting the Indian squad. Proving his point, he stated that he hopes that Mumbai’s Siddhesh Lad doesn’t turn up to be like former Mumbai player Amol Muzumdar.
Gavaskar questioned the selectors saying that despite scoring tons of runs at domestic level, Siddhesh hasn’t been called up to the India ‘A’ side. Therefore, he wished that Siddhesh’s career doesn’t end up to be similar to that of Muzumdar’s.
There’s another Mumbai lad who invariably scores when his team is in trouble, and that is Siddhesh Lad, but despite his consistency, he never finds himself even in the ‘A’ teams as the bias against Mumbai players is so deep- set,” the 69-year-old told Mid-Day.
The youngster that Gavaskar mentioned about has scored six centuries with an average of 43.39 whereas he has 21 first-class half-centuries to his name. Recently, he even got himself promoted and is all set to captain Mumbai in Ranji Trophy in their match against Maharashtra.
