Relatives of the deceased are demanding that dismissed Railway Security Force (RPF) jawan Chetan Singh, who opened fire on the Jaipur-Mumbai Express on the Western Railway and caused the death of four people, should also be given the death penalty. Yunus Syed, the brother of deceased Syed Saifuddin, said that even after a year, the fear of that incident is still in his mind.
A charge sheet has been filed in this case and the case is still pending. In the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express firing incident on July 31, 2023, accused Chetan Singh was accused of murdering RPF officer Tikaram Meena (58), Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammad Hussain Bhanpurwala (48), Akhtar Abbas Ali (48) along with Syed Saifullah, a resident of Hyderabad's Nampally division.
In this case, a case was registered against Chetan Singh under Sections 302, 153A, 341, 342, 363 of the IPC along with Sections 3, 25, 27 of the Indian Weapons Act and Section 152 of the Indian Railways Act. Yunus Syed said that even after a year since the incident, the family has not yet recovered from the shock. The impact of the incident on the family is so terrible that I myself feel afraid to go anywhere.
Yunus reacted that Chetan Singh, who mercilessly killed a family supporter, should be sentenced to death, that would be true justice for us.
The Railway Police had filed a 1097-page charge sheet in this case. It includes 39 witnesses. After the shooting incident, the police recovered some cartridges from the bodies of the deceased in the autopsy. Along with the rifle, they have also been sent for ballistic report.
Singh was carrying a semi-automatic assault rifle. He had 20 cartridges. He had fired 12 of them on the day of the incident. Eight live cartridges were found in the magazine of Singh's rifle. They have been confiscated. The Railway Police have recovered CCTV footage from the train.
The accused is seen in it. Also, after Chetan Singh's attack, some passengers had called. Gunshots can be heard in his recording. Apart from this, after the murder, an audio tape of Chetan Singh went viral. Forensic laboratory tests revealed that it was Chetan's. All this evidence has been included in the charge sheet. Accused Chetan Singh is currently in Akola Jail and the case against him is pending.
