5.59 lakh applications received for 540 seats in MBA courses at IIM Mumbai

It has been just two years since National Institute for Training in Industrial Engineering (NITIE) was transformed into the Indian Institute of Management Mumbai (IIM Mumbai), and students have responded enthusiastically to enroll in management courses at the institution. This year, a total of 5,59,887 applications have been received from across the country for 540 MBA seats at IIM Mumbai. Out of this, 1,90,538 are from girls. Last year, only 13,500 students had applied for this course.

After the NITIE received recognition from IIM Bombay, students have responded enthusiastically to enroll in management courses in the second year. There are a total of 540 seats available at IIM Mumbai, including 330 seats for the MBA course, 180 for the MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management, and 30 for the MBA in Sustainability Management.

About 5 lakh 59 thousand 887 applications have been received from across the country under the online application process for these 540 seats. Out of this, 2 lakh 69 thousand 356 applications have been received for the MBA course, 77 thousand 618 for the MBA in Operation and Supply Chain Management and 2 lakh 12 thousand 913 for the MBA in Sustainability Management course. The number of applications from boys is 1,72,207 and the number of applications from girls is 1,90,538. Also, this year, 15 transgender students have applied.

Last year, only 13 thousand applications were received. During the admission process, which was implemented for the first time last year, only 13,534 applications were received from across the country for these three courses. Of these, 9,430 applications were received for the MBA course, 2,665 for the MBA in Operations and Supply Chain Management, and 1,439 for the MBA in Sustainability Management course. This included applications from 10,039 boys and 3,488 girls. Seven transgender students also applied.

This led to an increase in the number of applications. As IIM Mumbai was established for the first time last year, the IIM Mumbai option was not available on the Indian Institute of Management portal. As a result, students had to apply by going to the IIM Mumbai website. Many students were not aware of this institute. However, this year, the inclusion of IIM Mumbai on the portal has increased the number of applications as it provides easy options to students. IIM Mumbai Director Prof Manoj Kumar Tiwari said that the admission process will become more competitive as more applications are received.
