Maharashtra: CET exams to be held between October 1-15

Uday Samant, Higher and Technical Education Minister, took to Twitter on Wednesday, September 2 to inform that all CET examinations in Maharashtra will be held between October 1-15.

He added that the governor is touted to meet the university vice-chancellors on Thursday to discuss schedule and mode of exams. The MHT-CET or Common Entrance Test is an annual entrance exam conducted by the Government of Maharashtra.

The Supreme Court had earlier refused to cancel the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) for admission to engineering courses on a plea by two students who demanded that admissions this year be conducted based on the score of their Class 12 examinations.

The order was passed by a bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan and R Subhash Reddy. The petitioner represented by advocate Shivaji M Jadhav cited the rising number of cases of coronavirus in Maharashtra stating that conducting the examinations in such a situation posed a grave risk to students.

Meanwhile, Samant had earlier stated that the final-year examinations will be held in the first week of October. He also added that the government has been considering the possibility of taking the examinations online.

In a press conference held in Mumbai, Samant said that amidst the coronavirus crisis, the health of the students is of utmost priority which is why the government has decided to conduct it in the month of October. Furthermore, he informed that some of the universities will announce the results by October 31, while the rest will announce the results by November 10.
