Mumbai Sees A Drop In Morning Temperature With 16 Degrees; Air Quality Improves

After a brief spell of heat, Mumbaikars experienced cool and chilly Friday morning, January 3, at 16 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 16.7 degrees Celsius.

The weather department's data showed that the city observatory in Colaba recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius.

In its forecast bulletin, IMD indicated that Mumbaikars will get a respite during the night as minimum temperature is slated to drop upto 15-16 degrees until January 4.

However, there will be a spike in the daytime temperature with the maximum temperature set to hover around 36-37 degree.

Amid the sudden shift in the weather conditions, Mumbai’s air quality improved significantly with the beginning of the New Year. This can also be slightly attributed to a temporary halt in construction activity.

Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has steadily improved, transitioning from 'poor' to 'moderate' levels at most monitoring stations.

Of the 30 air quality monitoring stations across Mumbai, 17 registered ‘moderate’ levels (101 – 200), while six stations recorded ‘satisfactory’ levels (51 – 100).

On January 3, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s SAMEER app reported in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality remained in the 'moderate' category, with an AQI of 117 at 9:05 am.

Areas with Moderate AQI: Bandra Kurla Complex – 138, Colaba - 114, Deonar – 120, and Kandivali - 109.

Areas with Good AQI: Borivali - 97, Mulund - 100 and Worli - 95.

Meanwhile, according to data from the SAMEER app, Navi Mumbai recorded air quality in the 'moderate' category with an AQI of 125, while Thane registered a 'good' AQI of 100.
