'Modak' or a sweet stuffed dumpling is not only Lord Ganesha's favourite but ours as well! This Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees who welcome Ganpati Bappa at their residence, offer modak to seek blessings. As per Indian tradition, devotees offer 21 modaks to Lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Usually, modak is made of jaggery and cardamom powder but there are other types of modak one should definitely try.
Until now, you must have eaten puran poli (Indian sweet flatbread) but you can also make modak of puranpoli's mixture. One can fill in puran poli mixture in maida (white flour) roti and can steam or can fry the same.
3. Gulkand Modak
Put rice flour in a pan, add water and stir it until it becomes smooth. After a while, add rose petals or rose water to it. Add gulkand mixture in the dough, prepare modak and either fry or give it a steam. One can buy gulkand in the confectionery shop as well.
Grind khoa, coconut and nuts into small pieces and make modaks out of it. Put this modak in hot chocolate sauce and keep it in the refrigerator.
5. Nuts Modak
Mix up dry dates, poppy seeds, almond, cashew nut and sugar and fill it in maida (white flour) dough. Deep fry these modaks. These are said to be good for health and tasty as well.
These modaks are prepared in Vidarbha (Maharashtra) where jaggery, red kohla (found only in Vidarbha) and maida (white flour) is used to make dough. Prepare modak out of it and fry it on a low flame.
Until now, we have seen various types of paneer dishes but very few people know that one can make paneer modak as well. These modaks are specially prepared in Delhi. For paneer modak, mix sugar, cashew, raisins, cardamom powder and prepare a mixture. Use this mixture and put in either semolina or maida made roti, make modak and fry.
8. Til (sesame) Modak
In Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, during Ganesh Chaturthi, one offers til (sesame)-made modak to Lord Ganesha. Put the hot mixture of til and jaggery in modak shaped mould and it's done.
9. Dink ( Whole Wheat Flour Truffles With Edible Gum & Dry Fruits) Modak
Fry dink (Whole Wheat Flour Truffles With Edible Gum & Dry Fruits) and make a mixture of it. Put this mixture in modak shaped mould and fry it on a slow flame.
10. Gram flour (besan) Modak
Fry gram flour with ghee in it. Instead of making besan laddoo, put the mixture in a modak shaped mould and besan modak is ready!
11. Banana Modak
Take bananas, grated coconut, milk, jaggery, put it in a mixer and make a paste. Add cardamom powder and fried semolina to the paste. Once the mixture thickens up, make modak of the dough.
