Mumbai: BMC to improve oxygen supply in maternity hospital; Decision to install new gas line

Keeping in mind the periodic obstruction in the supply of oxygen in the maternity hospitals of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Health Department of the Municipal Corporation has decided to improve the oxygen supply system in the maternity hospitals in the city and eastern suburbs in the first phase. For this, laying of new channel and other repair works will be taken up soon.

The civic body has 27 Maternity Hospitals and one Maternal and Child Hospital in Magathane. Among them Oshiwara, Marol, Savitribai Phule Bhandup, Dr. Anandibai Joshi Kurla Maternity Hospital as Sentinel Centre, a special Neonatal Department has been started there. Nurses, Laboratory Assistants, Technicians, Drug Makers, Data Entry Operators have been appointed under the National Urban Health Mission to improve the quality and performance of services in all maternity hospitals.

On one hand, while the maternity hospital is improving, on the other hand, there are huge obstacles in the supply of oxygen. The manager of the maternity hospital along with the patients had made many complaints about it to the municipal corporation. Accordingly, the health department of the municipality has decided to improve the oxygen supply in the maternity hospital.

A tender process has been implemented to improve the ventilation system in maternity hospitals in the city and eastern suburbs. Repair of oxygen devices along with medical gas pipeline system and laying of new oxygen supply channels etc. will be done in it. Apart from that, smart network video recording will also be provided. The municipality said that the work will actually start after the completion of the tender process within a month.
