For women with breast cancer, the decision to remove a breast can be stressful, along with the physical pain. However, many new treatments now make it possible to treat cancer without removing the breast. Apollo Cancer Center in Navi Mumbai has provided a new surgical option called 'Robotic Nipple-sparing Mastectomy TiLoop' and the hospital performed the first robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy TiLoop reconstruction surgery in Maharashtra in January.
Breast conserving surgery is a major part of breast cancer treatment. Oncoplasty is currently available as an option for this. However, many women still have to undergo mastectomy (removal of the entire breast). In this surgery, an incision is made near the nipple. A similar approach is used in robotic mastectomy surgery. But a very small incision reduces the risk of complications during or after surgery. After this surgery, the breasts are reshaped using autologous tissue (usually abdominal fat or back). However, in the 'Robotic Nipple-sparing Mastectomy TiLoop' surgery, a TiLoop which is a titanium-coated polypropylene mesh is placed in place of the breast without a mastectomy, so no changes are seen in the women's body.

Meanwhile, breast or nipple loss is often a source of depression for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Therefore, often a woman has to face emotional stress. The mental health of the patient is also important in the healing journey of cancer patients. A nipple-sparing robotic mastectomy TiLoop reduces the anxiety of physical change. Therefore, women's stress can be reduced to some extent. Also this surgery is relatively less painful.
Robotic surgery with TiLoop in Maharashtra should not be seen as just a next technological step or just a new technology. This treatment is an important step in the treatment of breast cancer. Also, complications can be avoided even after surgery, said Dr. Suresh H Advani, Senior Physician, Department of Medical Oncology, Apollo Cancer Center.
