Panvel: 3 Roads Will Be Expanded To 30 Feet at INR 20 Crore Cost

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a INR 20 crore project to widen the city’s three main roads. Construction will start after land acquisition notices are issued.

The widening is needed due to narrow sections causing traffic issues. The following roads will be expanded to 30 feet:

- The Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Marg, running from Jai Bharat Naka-Annapurna to Swatantryaveer Savarkar Chowk.

- Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Marg, stretching from Jai Bharat Naka-Virupaksha Mandir to Swatantryaveer Savarkar Chowk.

- Ram Ganesh Gadkari Marg, located near the Adarsh Hotel.

The civic body has sent a proposal to the subdivision office. On Wednesday, February 19, a notice was issued for land acquisition. The project will need 5,430 square meters of land. Property owners will be compensated under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.

A few homes and buildings along the roads may need to be shifted by a few meters. The acquisition process will take several months. Construction will start as soon as the acquisition is complete.

The PMC has recently cleared illegal structures on 10 major roads. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion, which gets worse during festivals. The town planning department included the road widening in the updated draft development plan.
