After connecting a portion of the C. D. Barfiwala Flyover to the height of the Gopalkrishna Gokhale Bridge, lane facilitating travel from Juhu to Andheri was opened for traffic from 5 pm, July 4, following the completion of ancillary works and traffic management tests.
However, only light vehicles are permitted on the bridge at the moment due to ongoing works on the bridge in railway area. Heavy barriers have been installed to restricts the entry of heavy vehicles.
As soon as it opened, flock of motorists started using the bridge giving them a sigh of relief from the traffic congestion.
The Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar visited the site and reviewed the situation post its opening.
According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials, the second part of the Gokhale bridge will take nearly 10 months to complete. As per reports, the work on the southern section of the main Gokhale bridge is underway and expected to be completed by March 2025.
Therefore, the BMC will work on connecting the second arm, which is the southern route of the Barfiwala flyover, during this time.
