Bhoiwada – The health department of the BMC has taken up repairs at the electric cremation pyre at Bhoiwada in F-South ward from 28 October. The electric crematorium section of the centre will remain closed for the next three months, until 27 January, 2017. This spells inconvenience for locals as well as relatives of those who pass away in the hospitals in the vicinity. The crematorium is used by relatives of patients who pass away at the nearby KEM Hospital, Wadia Hospital, Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital and TB hospital located in Parel East. Last rites on people passing away at the Tata Hospital and TB hospital are performed at Bhoiwada electric pyre, due to the serious nature of their diseases. The relatives will now have to take the bodies to Shivaji Park, Worli Chandanwadi or the Sion electric crematoria for the last rites, till the Bhoiwada electric pyre is functional again.
There is however an option of the conventional wood pyres available at the Bhoiwada crematorium, says Vishwas Mote, assistant commissioner of F-South ward.
