Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative assembly, Devendra Fadnavis on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him about the COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra.
After his meeting, Fadnavis spoke to the reporters and informed that his meeting with the Prime Minister was confined to him apprising about the coronavirus outbreak in Maharashtra.
“I sought time to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him about the COVID-19 situation and ground realities based on my visits in all districts of Maharashtra,” Fadnavis said while adding that he has not made any demands.
Fadnavis recently visited several districts in Maharashtra including Thane, Pune, Jalgaon, Aurangabad among others to take stock of the COVID-19 situation and the arrangements made by the state government.
“The centre is monitoring the COVID-19 crisis in all states and as the LoP, it was my duty to apprise the government of the problems being faced by the people. I have been demanding the MVA government to increase testing in Mumbai,” he asserted.
Earlier in the day, Fadnavis met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said that his meeting was not political while denying claims of ‘Operation Lotus’ in Maharashtra. He said that if the MVA government falls, it will be due to “internal contradictions”.
Fadnavis also met Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Civil Supplies Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to discuss the problems in sugar and overall agriculture sector amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Fadnavis informed that he has demanded the centre raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP), restructure loans and extend a soft loan to the sugar sector. The BJP leader was accompanied by party leaders including Dhananjay Mhadik, Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil, Prithviraj Deshmukh and others.
