The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has undoubetdly been one of the most
influential parties in the country. With catchy lines like "Main Bhi
Chowkidaar" and "Ab Ki Baar, Modi Sarkaar", the political party has
surely drawn attention. Accordingly, in a recent report disclosed by
Google, the BJP has been ranked as the leading spender on advertisements
on Google.
The data shared by Google further showed that BJP spent around ₹1.2
crore across 554 ads since Feb 2019, followed by YSR Congress Party that
spent approximately ₹1.04 crore across 107 ads. The Indian National
Congress ranked sixth with an ad spend of ₹54,100 across 14 ads.
The search engine made the data accessible to the public as a part of
its transparency report for election ads, which was announced in January
2019. Google is also expected to issue a searchable political ads
library in India, in order to bring more transparency to online election
ads ahead of the Lok Sabha Elections.
Along with this, BJP and its associates have spent around ₹5 crore on
Facebook as of 30 March, according to its ad archive report.
