Amid the destruction and loss of life in Western Maharashtra due to heavy rainfall which in turn has caused flooding, the opposition on Thursday lashed out at the Fadnavis-led government for their failure to respond quickly to the flood situation while slamming Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for delaying the suspension of his ‘Mahajanadesh Yatra’.

Maharashtra Congress President Balasaheb Thorat demanded that the centre should release ₹4,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation work and the floods should be declared as natural calamity. Thorat also criticised the absence of guardian ministers of the respective flood-affected districts in the state.

Thorat further said that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was unable to get the situation under control. Therefore, the centre should send military personnel to rescue the thousands who are stuck.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) spokesperson Nawab Malik also criticised CM Fadnavis saying that while almost every district in the Western part of Maharashtra was affected by heavy rains, the Chief Minister was busy with his political campaign ahead of the assembly polls.

Malik further claimed that CM Fadnavis didn’t realise the gravity of the situation in flood-affected areas and continue with his campaign rather than calling it off.
