Jaywantiben Mehta passes away

Mumbai - Veteran BJP leader Jaywantiben Mehta breathed her last at her Mumbai residence in the early hours of Monday. She was 77. Party leaders, including chief minister Devendra Fadnavis have expressed their grief over her death. Mehta was the Union Energy Minister between 1996 and 1999 in the Atal Behari Vajpayee government.

Was elected to the national executive body of BJP in 1980

Elected MP from South Mumbai in 1989

Served as Vice-President of BJP from 1993 - 1995

Defeated by Milind Deora in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections
