Jogeshwari East Constituency has been newly created. This constituency was created after the reorganisation of constituencies in 2009. Since then, this constituency has been dominated by Shiv Sena (United). Ravindra Waikar of Shiv Sena has been elected as MLA from this constituency for three consecutive times. After the Shiv Sena split into two factions, Ravindra Waikar chose to join Eknath Shinde's faction. However, it has also split the Shiv Sainiks in Jogeshwari. Meanwhile, Waikar was given a ticket by the Shinde group from Northwest Mumbai in this year's Lok Sabha elections. In this election, Waikar defeated Shiv Sena's Thackeray group leader Amol Kirtikar by just 48 votes and now he has entered the Parliament.

Shiv Sena's Shinde group is looking for a new candidate in this constituency, as Waikar has gone to the Lok Sabha

Mahayuti has not been allocated seats yet. Now that Waikar has gone to the Lok Sabha, the Shiv Sena's Shinde group and the Bharatiya Janata Party are insisting on getting this seat. Former corporator Ujjwala Modak and North-West BJP District President Santosh Medhekar are both trying to get candidature from this constituency. The traditional Shiv Sena-BJP alliance was broken during the 2014 elections. At that time, BJP had nominated Ujjwala Modak from this constituency. But Waikar had defeated Modak by 28 thousand votes at that time. Though Shiv Sena dominates Jogeshwari, BJP has three corporators in this assembly constituency. There are also two corporators from the Shinde group. In the previous municipal elections, two corporators of BJP had lost in this constituency by a margin of just a few votes. Also, in the last few years, BJP's presence in this constituency has increased. Therefore, there is little to no possibility of BJP giving tickets to Shinde group from this constituency.

Will the Shinde group nominate Waikar's wife?

On the other hand, although Ravindra Waikar has gone to the Lok Sabha, he has not let his interest wither from this assembly constituency. Waikar is trying to get his wife a candidate for the Legislative Assembly from this constituency. On the other side, BJP workers have put up posters at various places with the content that BJP should become an MLA in this constituency. Congress is also said to have claimed this seat. Some of their leaders are preparing to contest elections from Jogeshwari. Both the parties are likely to claim the candidature. However, it is certain that Jogeshwari will get a new MLA after the upcoming assembly elections.

Total number of voters

There are a total of 2,89,805 voters in this assembly constituency out of which 1,57,811 are male voters and 1,31,994 are female voters.

Ravindra Waikar's grip on the constituency

Ravindra Waikar has been elected as an MLA from here three times. Before that, he has been elected as a corporator from Jogeshwari for four consecutive times (1992 to 2009). From 2006 to 2010, he was the Chairman of the Standing Committee of Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
