The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has reaffirmed its commitment to its current alliances, putting an end to speculation about a possible reconciliation between the factions led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar. It was stated that the party remains steadfast in its decision to align with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the Centre and the Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra. The announcement clarified that no reconsideration of this stance would take place.
The position was conveyed by NCP state president and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare during a press briefing in Mumbai. It was highlighted that the party had secured a significant mandate in Maharashtra under Ajit Pawar’s leadership as part of the Mahayuti alliance. Any possibility of reuniting with Sharad Pawar’s faction was dismissed, with Tatkare explaining that political decisions are not influenced by hypothetical scenarios.
Personal appeals for a reconciliation were brought to light by Ajit Pawar’s mother, Asha Pawar, during her visit to the Vitthal-Rukmini temple in Pandharpur. Prayers were reportedly offered for an end to disputes between Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar, and hopes were expressed for their reunion. It was shared with reporters that her prayers also included wishes for Ajit Pawar’s aspirations to come true. Despite these familial sentiments, a clear distinction between personal relationships and political realities was emphasized.
It was noted that while the party holds respect for Sharad Pawar, political differences have been maintained. Tatkare stated that although Sharad Pawar’s image was once prominently displayed on party banners even after the split, it was later removed at his request. It was underscored that respect alone does not dictate political decisions, and the reunification of the factions was not considered viable.
On the controversy surrounding NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, whose resignation has been demanded after the arrest of his aide Walmik Karad in connection with a murder case, a firm stance was taken. It was confirmed that the party supports an impartial and thorough inquiry into the matter. The assurance was given that legal actions would follow the findings of the investigation without any interference from the party.
Efforts to address internal dissent were also revealed. Plans for a meeting between Tatkare and senior party leader Chhagan Bhujbal, who has expressed dissatisfaction over being excluded from the Maharashtra cabinet, were announced. The meeting is expected to take place in the coming days, signaling attempts to manage grievances within the party ranks. The series of statements have indicated the NCP’s focus on consolidating its alliances and maintaining internal stability, while addressing controversies and personal appeals with a clear separation between politics and family dynamics.
