The Maharashtra Congress Party is gearing up to nominate Vijay Wadettiwar as the new Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly. The seat became vacant after the split of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) from the opposition coalition.

The Congress High Command has given its support for Vijay Wadettiwar's nomination as the LoP. The command has urged CLP Leader Balasaheb Thorat to propose Wadettiwar's name for the prestigious position.

Nana Patole, the President of the Maharashtra Congress, emphasised that his party deserved the LoP office. As the largest party among the coalition partners, Congress fulfils the eligibility criteria to claim the Leader of the Opposition seat.

As per the established procedure, the Leader of Opposition position is awarded to the party with the most representation in the House, which makes Congress eligible for the role.
