With speculations of tension in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Thursday said that BJP must extend support to the Shiv Sena-led government in Maharashtra.

Targeting the stability of the MVA, Swamy said that if Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) back out, BJP should extend its support in order to establish the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rule in Maharashtra again.

“If Congi and NCP withdraw support from Uddhav government then in the national interest BJP must extend support and re-form NDA govt in Maharashtra (sic),” the BJP MP in Rajya Sabha tweeted.

His remarks came after reports of speculations suggesting tension between Congress and Shiv Sena over certain issues. Senior Congress leaders Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan have openly expressed their displeasure with the Uddhav Thackeray-government over their party not being involved in the decision-making process.

Earlier, Shiv Sena has also attacked Congress accusing it being an “old cot which yawps now and then”. The editorial published in ‘Saamana’ warned Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to prepare himself for listening to the “squeaks” of Congress.

The issues bothering Congress in Maharashtra pertains to them feeling left out in the decision-making process along with the distribution of 12 legislative council seats nominated from the governor’s quota.

However, on the same day, Maharashtra Congress President Thorat met Thackeray at the latter’s residence. Thorat was accompanied by Chavan in the meeting held at Matoshree.

After the meeting, Thorat said that the alliance was stable while adding that there are some issues which could have been discussed face to face. “This is why we were seeking a meeting with the Chief Minister,” he claimed.
