Thane's Aarya Korgaonkar and Mumbai suburban's Manali Parulekar won close matches to enter the quarter-finals of the girls' under-13 group in the Kwality Bakers first Maharashtra sub-junior state selection badminton tournament jointly organised by Jayesh Dhuri Badminton Academy Badminton Foundation (JDBABF) and Brihanmumbai Kreeda aani Lalitkala Pratishthan (BKLP) under the auspices of Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and Mumbai Suburban District Badminton Association (MSDBA).
Initially, Aarya lost an intense first game but fought hard to win the next two to beat Sanika Patankar of Pune 22-24, 21-17, 21-18. Manali also lost the first game but got her act together to overcome the challenge of Pune's Aarti Chougale 13-21, 21-16, 21-18 at the Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Mulund.
In the other matches of this group, the top seed Aalisha Naik of Mumbai suburban comfortably defeated Nasik's Varada Ekande 21-10, 21-16, while Nasik's Hetal Vishwakarma secured a convincing 21-14, 21-11 victory over Pinak Rokde of Nagpur. Thane girls Madhumita Narayan and Tanika Sequeira along with Greater Mumbai's Naishaa Bhatoye and Mumbai suburban's Siya Singh won their respective matches to advance to the quarter-finals of the girls' under - 13 group.
In the boys' under-13 group, the top-seeded Prajwal Sonawane of Nasik eased past Raigad's Vishv Donga 21-13, 21-9, while the second seed Om Gavandi of Thane outplayed Mumbai suburban's Bhavya Shah 21-5, 21-5 to enter the pre-quarterfinals. In the other matches of this group, Pune's Shreyas Sane and Aadya Parasnis along with Nagpur's Ojas Gedam and Mumbai suburban's Suchir Ravva won their respective matches comfortably to progress.
