After witnessing a rise in the number of road accidents across Maharashtra, the state government decided to make sterner laws for drivers in Maharashtra. This directly affected the drivers throughout the state as around 13,747 driving licenses were cancelled in 2018. On the other hand, only 42 licenses were cancelled in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, between January 2019 and March 2019, around 12,558 drivers' licenses were cancelled across Maharashtra. Amongst which, 845 driving licenses were cancelled in Mumbai.
