With an aim to improve passenger amenities, the Central Railway (CR) will be building 52 escalators and 25 lifts by March 31, 2018.
As per the plan, the first escalator will be installed inTitawala this November, followed by two escalators by December at Dadar and Thane and one at Dockyard Road.
The remaining will be installed in 2018, where 11 escalators will be installed in the month of January, 21 in February at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, 14 in the month of March, which includes two at Dadar, two at Kalyan and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSTM). By March 31, 18 escalators will be installed on Western line which will add to the already installed 32 escalators.
Other than escalators, CR has also decided to install 13 lifts, out of which five are in CSTM. Other stations in the list include Wadala Road, Chembur, Raey Road, Dockyard Road, LTT, Mankhurd, and Dadar. If everything goes as per the plan, 25 more lifts will be installed by March 2018 with some functional ones at the earliest.
