Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will remain non-functional for six hours every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday till March 30. The hindrance has been caused due to major repair work on its runways. Flight operations will stop from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm on these days, except on March 21, i.e. Holi.
The repair work at the airport will take place at the intersection of the primary and the secondary runways. This will reduce the total capacity of flights taking off and landing at the airport. On an average, Mumbai Airport operates 46 flights an hour.
The repair consists of work to re-carpet the intersection of both runways and the six-hour closure every day will affect more than 250 flights. Meanwhile, it is expected that due to the closure, the fares for the air travel will witness a rise their prices.
