Looking at the surging crowd in the local trains, it was advised by the Indian Railways that the offices in Mumbai should incorporate some changes in their shift timings. On a general basis, the coaches of the local trains are seen to be stacked with people between the hours of 7 to 12 in the morning and 5 to 9 in the evening. And now seeing the condition getting only worse, railway minister Suresh Prabhu in a discussion with the state government has requested for the same. The offices in Mumbai generally start and get over mostly at the same time, due to which the local trains are packed with people. Not only this, a lot of people end up meeting with accidents because of this.

Consequently, the Supreme Court had earlier issued orders to either change the timings of the offices in Mumbai or to come up with a better solution so as to encounter this problem. Post which, the RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Service) had started acting on this issue. Further, a report will be prepared and submitted in this regard. As a matter of fact, after the orders from the court, the state government as well has started working on it and an officer has also been appointed for this.
