Mumbai Police will train 40,000 officers in people-first policing techniques over the next 11 months. The training programme will improve how police interact with civilians. It will also raise the quality of public service and professional behaviour.
The programme was launched in partnership with Imarticus Learning. It is the first time such a large skilling effort is being taken up for police officers in Mumbai. The programme started with a five-day training for 500 master trainers.
The launch event was held in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This training is part of the Mission Karmayogi project. The Maharashtra government approved the programme in October 2023.
Mission Karmayogi is a national initiative to improve the skills of civil servants. It focuses on ongoing learning, digital training, and performance-based management. The goal of this training is to build trust between the police and the public. It will also improve how officers handle complaints and provide services.
Before the training begins, officials will hold talks with both citizens and police personnel. These discussions will help identify the problems and gaps in service.
After that, the master trainers will train the 40,000 officers in two-day sessions. Later, the full programme is done, an impact study will be carried out. This will check how well the training worked and suggest ways to improve it further.
