An incinerator has been started at Malad to cremate domesticated and stray small animals in case of death. However, the facility of animal mortuary will soon be provided at this place. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration intends to start this facility within the next month.

The BMC started PNG based cremation on 15th September 2023 for scientific cremation of dead pets and stray dogs, cats etc. Animals are cremated free of cost in this crematorium from 10 am to 6 pm. However, if an animal dies after 6 pm, the mortuary was constantly demanded by the animal lovers so that they do not have to wait till the morning for their funeral. In case of death of an animal and if the animal's loved ones are away from him at that time, mortuaries are also being started so that they can say their last goodbyes to the animal. Meanwhile, the incineration facility at Malad has been temporarily closed for three weeks from December 2 for maintenance work. After the completion of the maintenance works, the BMC is trying to start the mortuary along with the crematorium, informed the senior officials of the civic body.
