The first double-decker flyover in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) was officially inaugurated by the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on on Wednesday, August 28. This new infrastructure at Mira-Bhayandar is expected to significantly improve daily commutes for the residents. It will also integrate with a flyover with Metro Line 9.

The flyover spans 1.5 kilometres and stands 5.5 meters above the current road level. It is expected to reduce travel time by 8 to 10 minutes. It will reduce traffic congestion at key junctions, including Pleasant Park, Hatkesh, and Silver Park. This improvement will help in saving fuel and lowering vehicle emissions, including greenhouse gases.

The flyover's unique design is inspired by the Metro Red Line. The elevation of the roadway helps in preserving green spaces, contributing to the urban ecosystem. The structure is fully equipped with proper lighting and signage as per the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways guidelines.

Joint Metropolitan Commissioner Radhabinod Sharma, along with MLA Pratap Sarnaik and Geeta Jain, attended the inauguration ceremony. The flyover meets IRC: 7-2017 and Indian Railway Standards: 2014 requirements. This means that it can handle heavy traffic, including multi-axle trucks.

Advanced construction technology was used to expedite the project. The use of I-girder precast components made sure of high-quality construction. The Tyre Straddle Carrier technology allowed for the daytime installation of U-girders without disrupting traffic. The entire project was completed in two years.

The project involved relocating the Dahanu-Versova power generating line. The line was raised to a height of 75 meters above ground to accommodate the Metro. This line is the second-largest in Maharashtra and was moved around 3 kilometres for the flyover's construction.
