In recent developments, Koparkhairane has become the first civic ward in Navi Mumbai to be free of any public garbage bin.

According to reports, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) plans on making Navi Mumbai a garbage bin-free city in order to rank atop in the country in Swachh Survekshan 2021. Moreover, Abhijit Bangar, Navi Mumbai civic chief, has initiated a ward-wise review of the work being undertaken for Swachh Survekshan 2021.

In addition, the civic body of Navi Mumbai has asked the residents to make use of a compost basket for scientific disposal of garbage. Meanwhile, natural fertilizers can be used in flower pots in the house.

On the other hand, the Indira Nagar area of Turbhe ward has become the first area in Navi Mumbai to become completely free of the coronavirus. Back on Wednesday, January 20, Indira Nagar which had just seven active cases in January, all recovered from the coronavirus. Moreover, as a result of intensive contract tracing, enrolling local leaders, social workers and general practitioners etc. have helped reduce the number of positive cases, as reported by the civic body of NMMC.

Meanwhile, the Indira Nagar area has reported 13 deaths so far due to COVID-19. However, there was not a single death after the month of June last year. Moreover, Medical officer Maithili Shinde, in-charge of Indira Nagar Health Centre, speaking about the recoveries informed that her team made sure that at least 20 contacts of every positive patient were traced and quarantined.
