Lockdown in Mira-Bhayandar extended until July 31

The number of cases in July has seen a rapid increase in comparison to June, where 2624 cases have been reported in just a few days this month, while June had 2588 cases, showing an increase by 202 per cent.

Observing an increase in the number of coronavirus cases, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has decided to extend the lockdown in Mira Road and Bhayandar until July 31, 2020. 

Though the cases are increasing, the MBMC has decided to offer relaxations in areas which are not marked as hotspots or containment zones. Hence, lockdown will not be applicable in those areas, mentioned the official circular released by the authorities. 

Over the last few weeks, the area has become one of the worst affected with COVID-19 cases with 182 cases identified with four deaths on Saturday, July 18, taking the total to 6,422 cases with 219 deaths. Further, 210 patients recovered on Saturday, taking the tally in this division to 4,919 who were cured and discharged.

Shops will be allowed to remain open from 9 am to 5 pm, on alternative days, based on the even/odd, i.e. P1-P2 model. Officials have also asked the public to not leave the house unless necessary, and if one flouts the rules and guideline issued by the government, police will be forced to take action under IPC Section 188.

MBMC has been conducting tests to ensure safety and aiming to curb the spread of the virus. As many as 500 tests are being conducted every day and so far 7,531 samples have been tested until July, whereas 7600 were tested in June. However, as per data, the number of cases in July has seen a rapid increase in comparison to June, where 2624 cases have been reported in just a few days this month, while June had 2588 cases, showing an increase by 202 per cent.

As per recent updates, door-to-door screening is being conducted to identify new cases and if one is found to develop COVID-19 symptoms they are being asked to follow protocols along with necessary treatment given at healthcare facilities.

Data released by the state health ministry stated that the coronavirus tally in Maharashtra crossed 3-lakh mark and Mumbai has more than 1-lakh cases.
