The Bharat Diamond Bourse on Monday, August 5, wrote a letter to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), requesting to resolve traffic and infrastructure issues in Block G of the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). Block G is where the Bharat Diamond Bourse is located.

The letter was addressed to MMRDA Commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee. The letter highlighted significant infrastructure problems affecting daily operations. It was noted that Bourse experiences an average daily foot traffic of 80,000 and a vehicular influx of 9,000.

The letter also claimed that ongoing metro line work is causing regular traffic jams due to the reduced road space. The Bourse urged the MMRDA to address these issues promptly.

State Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha also wrote to the MMRDA on Monday. Lodha is the guardian minister for the Mumbai suburban region. He urged the organisation to resolve the congestion problems in BKC. Lodha mentioned that he has been discussing the problems with citizens and officials for the last six months.

He requested the MMRDA restore bicycle lanes and create a separate, safe cycling track in BKC. Additionally, Lodha suggested improving the barriers used for metro work to take up less space. He also proposed introducing dedicated buses from Bandra station to BKC. This would help reduce the congestion caused by taxis and autorickshaws.

The letter further said that, "The traffic issue is made worse by Bharat Diamond Bourse's space of 21 meters for walkways and gardens and only 15 meters for a 4-lane road. The necessary infrastructure upgrades should be implemented to address this problem."

Some of the other suggestions included widening BKC's roads; the left lane should always be open; intelligent traffic signals and systems should be put in place; and the BKC Police Station should establish a distinct traffic division.

The MMRDA has yet to respond to these requests.
