On Monday, April 18, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), the state power utility company issued a press statement that mentioned it had "succeeded in ensuring no load shedding anywhere in the state for five days", cited reports.

Anil Kamble, MSEDCL Chief Spokesperson was quoted in accounts elaborating on how the peak demand was more than 26,000 MW and a coal shortage was there throughout India for thermal power generation. Kamble added that in spite of these challenges, they were able to address the highest demand and ensure that there was not any load shedding.

On the other hand, on Monday, Girish Mahajan, BJP leader mentioned while interacting with reporters that the power crisis in Maharashtra was owing to the mismanagement of the MVA government. He claimed that the earlier government had ensured that there was not any load-shedding, reported the news agency PTI.

Mahajan alleged that the state government was creating an "artificial power crisis" and blaming the Union for irregular coal supply. He went on to claim that not even one power plant had stopped functioning owing to coal shortage and that the centre was ensuring that the supply is regular.

Recently, the Maharashtra government has undertaken the decision to purchase additional power from Coastal Gujarat Power Limited (CGPL) to avert load shedding and ensure the smooth supply of electricity.
