The PETA India recently filed a complaint about illegal horse racing on Mumbai’s Eastern Expressway. Acting on this, the 50th Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Vikhroli rescued 12 horses involved in the activity. The races, which occurred between 3 am and 4 am, were traced to Ghatkopar East and continued toward Vikhroli. Audio clips of the event, featuring horse carriages and bikers, were shared on social media.

Pant Nagar police registered an FIR against the organizers under relevant laws, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. With CCTV evidence, the horses were identified and later transferred to a sanctuary in compliance with legal animal welfare rules.
